Our favourite poet of the internet age, Rupi Kaur, burst onto the scene this decade with her introspective Milk and Honey, which alongside beautiful hand drawings featured moving poems about everything from self-love to family relationships. Now, she’s back with another poignant book of poetry entitled Home Body.
Created for the COVID-lockdown age, Home Body explores our relationship with ourselves. Kaur writes:
i dive into the well of my body
and end up in another world
everything i need
already exists in me
there’s no need
to look anywhere else
after feeling disconnected for so long my mind and body are finally coming back to each other
Divided into four sections – mind, heart, rest and wake – Kaur mixes lyricism with imagery to explore themes of mental health, family, self-love and more, touching on points that many of us can relate to and issues that have been thrust into the spotlight this year. This anthology couldn’t have come at a better time – a time when many of us feel lost, disconnected, perhaps isolated and not ourselves. We may have lost a bit of confidence or other things, and this beautiful collection of poetry will help us bring US back to ourselves.
