Office fashion has never been my cup of tea. It’s stressful enough dealing with presentations and project deadlines. Add a tight, sweaty blazer to the mix and it’s enough to unsettle any aspiring CEO. But, as Misha Nonoo proves, you can still pursue your dreams while looking professional AND feeling comfortable.
Since the debut of her eponymous label in 2011, the Bahrain-born, London-raised, Paris-educated, New York-based designer has helped women around the world to build their work (and weekend) capsule wardrobes. It’s all about minimalist pieces to power you throughout your day, from 9 am client meetings to after-work cocktails with the squad.
Misha Nonoo offers classic but breathable work wear, like relaxed fit trousers and tie-up blazers, along with more contemporary pieces. These include pleated skirts, wrap tops and customizable “husband shirts” – loose button-downs that come with different 14 fabric/colour combos and optional monogram initials above the pocket.
Sustainability is also key. Each garment is made to order and shipped plastic-free. And in 2020, the brand renewed their commitment to using natural fibres, recycled polyester and zero-waste knits.
After collaborating with Megan Markle on her 2019 Smart Set line, Misha has since launched a maternity collection with Hatch and worked with Fry Powers to design colourful studs for husband shirts. No longer up-and-coming but still a relative newcomer, her fresh take on work wear will no doubt continue to empower women as they work toward their career goals.
