As time goes on, your style will inevitably ebb, flow and shift as you try and find what works for you. And it’s only natural to go through a few questionable phases before reaching your final destination. While on the journey, here are a few tips that’ll help tremendously.
1. Get clothes that fit (unless you’re purposefully going for the oversized/baggy look)
This is perhaps the single most important thing you can do to transform your look. It might seem like a small thing, but trust us when we say that it works wonders. A bra that’s too small or jeans that are too wide at the hips are not only uncomfortable to wear, but also don’t look that great. Take some time to actually find out what size you are. This will inevitably differ from item to item and from store to store, but take 20 minutes and figure out your measurements (bust, hips, waist, torso length, leg length). Then invest some time into checking things fit properly when buying clothes. You’ll be surprised by how much of a difference it makes.
2. Wear clothes you feel comfortable in
You might not think it, but if you’re wearing something you’re not comfortable in…it shows. So, its super important not to change your style based on someone else’s. If you can’t walk in heels, you don’t have to wear them! If you hate tight dresses, stick to loose-fitting ones. And if that body suit is uncomfortable in the wrong places…well, to hell with the Instagram aesthetic. In short, wear clothes that you’re comfortable in. You’ll not only feel better, but look better too. Confidence really is key.
3. Less is More
Don’t get us wrong, we love a good maximalist. But there’s an art to it. So, to stay on the safe side, remember what Chanel said: “before you leave the house, take one thing off.” Sometimes it’s a scarf that adds too much to the outfit, or the bright pink trench coat doesn’t exactly go with the rest of the items. In any case, keep in mind that less is more, and a lot of the times, simple looks better than overdone.
